ABOUT US
Semana Criativa de Tiradentes is a cultural and social project and a festival which takes place in Tiradentes in the province of Minais Gerais, Brazil. The objective of the project is to reveal, value and preserve traditional knowledge to prevent it from being lost. This project is made possible by journalist Simone Quintas and cultural producer Junior Guimarães.
Throughout the year we promote collaboration between designers and artisans to exchange knowledge, in order to bring a contemporary spin to artisanal crafts and a brazilian touch to modern design. Both sides go through a unique process that transforms the way they work. As a result of this collaborative process we can see creative products full of history on display at the Semana Criativa de Tiradentes store as well as in retail shops around Brazil.
The Semana Criativa de Tiradentes festival takes place every year in october. It is a true marathon of content, experiences and showcases of craftsmanship, design, architecture, gastronomy and the Brazilian way of life. A series of activities happen during the four days festival: lectures, roundtable discussions, exhibitions, workshops, book publications and a design market with small producers.
Our audience consists of architects, product and interior designers, artisans, artists, influencers, shopkeepers and like-minded people across the country.
CREATORS
SIMONE QUINTAS
Creator and curator
Simone Quintas is a graduate of journalism with extensive experience in radio, corporate communications and publishing. She worked as a reporter in Rádio Cultura de Santos AM/FM and in the internal communications office in Volkswagen as well as with various magazines.
She found herself surrounded in architecture and decoration while working for Casa e Jardin magazine (House & Garden), in a company called Editora Globo. She spent 20 years with the magazine, the last eight years as editor in chief with responsibility for the magazine, website, awards and brand events. For many years her work covered the main international events including: Milan Design Week London Design Week, Maison&Object, Heimtextil and the Cologne Exhibition. In Editora Globo, she was also in charge of a magazine Casa e Comida (House & Food) with similar responsibilities. She has served as a jury member of many awards such as Brazilian Object Award, (Museu A Casa) and the Tok&Stok award of Design University.
Simone left the publishing business at the end of 2016 and started to work with Semana Criativa de Tiradentes in 2017 as a curator.
In 2021, she started yet another project together with journalist Regina Galvão: a podcast Casa Frente e Verso, specialized in architecture, design and artesanal crafts. The podcast is available in Spotify,Apple Podcasts and Anchor.
JÚNIOR GUIMARÃES
strong Creator and producer
Júnior Guimarães is a graduate of administrative studies at PUC University and a cultural producer with 20 years of experience in events and various cultural projects. He has worked as the production coordinator for Centro de Referência da Dança, in São Paulo, for four years and has been a member of various jurys during his career, especially related to dance in the city of São Paulo. For eight years, he worked in the management team of the cultural projects “TODODOMINGO” and “Obras em Construção” – Artist Residency Program, both of the Casa das Caldeiras Cultural Association, in São Paulo. In Tiradentes, Júnior is an active member of the cultural scene and member of the production crew of Foto em Pauta photography festival.
TIRADENTES
Dating back to 1702, Tiradentes was an important center for gold explorers before it ran dry at the end of the 18th century. This period was sufficient to build one of the most beautiful colonial architectural legacies in the country. This marvel was fortunately preserved as the city was forgotten and left untouched after the gold rush.
In 1938, the historic center was listed by the National Historic and Artistic Heritage Service (SPHAN) –nowadays the Historical Heritage and National Artistic Institution (IPHAN). From the 1980’s the restored city became a tourist destination and a shooting location for many TV series, soap operas, movies and epoque films.
Today, Tiradentes is also known as a gastronomical destination as the already famous cuisine from Minas Gerais has been fusioned with fine dining. Along with being famed for its cuisine, Tiradentes is known for its many cultural festivals in artisanal crafts, design, cinema, theater, photography, art and music.
